Happy Birthday Alex Turner!

Alexander David "Alex" Turner was born on 6 January 1986. He is 27 years old today.

Alex's mom is Penny. His father is David Turner. David taught German and music respectively at Sheffield secondary schools. They bought him his first guitar for Christmas 2001.

He's an English musician, best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter of the English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys(Matt Helders, Nick O'Malley, Jamie Cook).  The band was formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield.

Their first album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' was released in early 2006, became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history. The band has since released three more albums: Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009) and Suck It and See (2011) all reaching No.1 in the UK album charts.

 

He had another project outside the Arctic Monkeys called The Last Shadow Puppets and as a solo artist. Alex worked with his friend Miles Kane in the band 'The Last Shadow Puppets'.Their album, The Age of the Understatement, was released on 21 April 2008 and reached number one in its first week.

Alex wrote and performed all six tracks for the soundtrack for the movie 'Submarine'. The soundtrack was released on 18 March 2011

Alex had a two-year relationship with Johanna Bennett and they co-wrote the Arctic Monkeys' 'Fluorescent Adolescent'.

He was together with the with television presenter and model Alexa Chung from April 2007 to July 2011.

Now he's dating with the actress Arielle Vandenberg.

Alex famed for his distinctive strong Sheffield-accented singing voice.
